How to invite manually
How to invite your contacts manually
There are 3 options for manual invitations:
- typing names and email addresses
- uploading a CSV file to Starred.
- copy/pasting contacts from a CSV file into Starred.
Adding email addresses manually
Please note: This option is only recommendable when you need to invite just a few addresses and when you do not need to add any properties to your responses.
If you still need to invite manually but would like your responses to be linked to properties so you can filter your dashboards, we recommend using the .csv upload option.
Here's how to add addresses manually:
- From your Survey overview, open the dropdown menu for the survey you'd like to send out and select Invite new respondents.
- A screen with 3 different invite options appears and here you can choose who you want to invite and how you want to do that. Click on Add manually
- Type first name, last name, and email address of the contacts you want to invite.
- Finally, click on 'Compose' once you're done
After typing your email addresses and clicking Compose, Starred will redirect you to the invitation composer where you can review your invitation text, select the right template to send and adjust other settings such as the sender and the reminder (described in the paragraphs below).
Finish up your settings, preview and send 🥳
Uploading a CSV file
This option is recommendable when you need to add properties to your responses. This way, you'll be able to filter your dashboards based on these properties when you're analyzing your feedback.
To upload a .csv file, you first need to create it. Check out our dedicated article for that, then come back here.
Please note: try and keep your files under 500 contacts as very large files are harder to process.
To upload your .csv file, follow these steps:
- From your Survey overview, open the dropdown menu for the survey you'd like to send out and select Invite new respondents.
- From the next page, select Upload CSV
- Click on Upload file and choose the file from your computer.
- When you're done, click on Compose.
Starred will now redirect you to the invitation text composer where you can review your invitation text, select the right template to send and adjust other settings such as the sender and the reminder (described in the paragraphs below).
Finish up your settings, preview and send 🥳
Please note: when a .csv file contains the same email address more than once, duplicates are automatically deleted by Starred.
Copy/pasting from CSV
A quick copy and paste option from Excel/Google Sheets/Numbers is also possible.
- From your file, copy all fields: First name, Last name, Email address, etc. Make sure you copy the first row (with column titles) as well!
- From Click on 'Copy/paste from CSV'
- Paste it into the white box that appears
- Click on 'Compose' when you're done.
Starred will now redirect you to the invitation text composer where you can review your invitation text, select the right template to send and adjust other settings such as the sender and the reminder (described in the paragraphs below).

Choosing the sender
After you've uploaded your contacts, it's time to choose a sender.
To choose a different sender, when you're in the invitation composer, you can click on the dropdown menu and select the person that should be the sender of the invitation.
🌟Please note:
- Only users with access to 'Can edit company details' on the Starred platform are authorized to send invitations on behalf of someone else.
- If you wish to send out invitations from an address that does not have an inbox and therefore can't be a user in Starred, you can use our alias sender address feature. Check out our dedicated article to learn how to create one and then come back to this step to choose the alias address as the sender of your survey!
Scheduling an invitation
If you know what time you expect the highest response, you might want to send your invitations at this time.
Just check the 'Schedule' box and select your preferred date and time.
Setting a reminder
When recipients don't respond to the invitation, you can automatically send them a friendly reminder.
This reminder is exactly the same message as the original invitation, apart from the fact that the subject field starts with 'Friendly reminder: [subject]'.
- Underneath Send reminder, click on Yes
- Choose the nr. of days
You're all set!
You're now ready to preview your survey and send it out 🥳
