Uploading a .csv file

Your second manual inviting option is to upload a .csv file that contains the names and email addresses of your contacts.

This option is recommendable when you need to add properties to your responses, such as department, recruiter and so on. This way, you'll be able to filter your dashboards based on these properties when you're analyzing your feedback.

To upload a .csv file, you first need to create it. Check out our dedicated article for that, then come back here.

Please note: try and keep your files under 500 contacts as very large files are harder to process.

To upload your .csv file, follow these steps:

  1. From your Survey overview, open the dropdown menu for the survey you'd like to send out and select Invite new respondents.

  1. From the next page, select Upload CSV

Please note: you can also choose the option Copy/paste from .csv, but uploading works better when the file is larger. At the bottom of this page you'll find more information about this feature.

  1. Click on Upload file and then on Compose when you're done.

Please note: when a .csv file contains the same email address more than once, duplicates are automatically deleted by Starred.

Starred will now redirect you to the invitation text composer where you can review your invitation text, select the right template to send and adjust other settings such as the sender and the reminder.

Copy/paste from CSV

A quick copy and paste option from Excel is also possible.

  1. Select all fields: First name, Last name, Email address, etc. from your Excel file. Make sure you copy/paste the first row (with column titles) as well!
  2. Click on 'Copy/paste from CSV'
  3. Paste it into the white box that appears
  4. Click on 'Compose' when you're done.
