Using a CSV file

Your second and third options require a .csv file that contains the names and email addresses of your contacts.

This option is recommendable when you need to add properties to your responses, such as department, recruiter , office and so on. This way, you'll be able to filter your dashboards based on these properties when you're analyzing your feedback.

To upload a .csv file, you first need to create it. Check out our dedicated article for that, then come back here.

Please note: try and keep your files under 500 contacts as very large files are harder to process.

Uploading a CSV file

To upload your .csv file, follow these steps:

  1. From your Survey overview, open the dropdown menu for the survey you'd like to send out and select Invite new respondents.

  1. From the next page, select Upload CSV

Please note: you can also choose the option Copy/paste from .csv, but uploading works better when the file is larger. At the bottom of this page you'll find more information about this feature.

  1. Click on Upload file and choose the file from your computer.

  1. When you're done, click on Compose.

Starred will now redirect you to the invitation text composer where you can review your invitation text, select the right template to send and adjust other settings such as the sender and the reminder. Please note: when a .csv file contains the same email address more than once, duplicates are automatically deleted by Starred.

Copy/paste from CSV

A quick copy and paste option from Excel/Google Sheets/Numbers is also possible.

  1. From your file, copy all fields: First name, Last name, Email address, etc. Make sure you copy the first row (with column titles) as well!
  2. From Click on 'Copy/paste from CSV'
  3. Paste it into the white box that appears
  4. Click on 'Compose' when you're done.
